Mark Lynas

Environmental writer and government advisor

Mark Lynas is the author of five major works of popular science; his book Six Degrees won the 2008 Royal Society prize and was translated into 22 languages. He has written for the Guardian, New York Times and Washington Post and appeared in the films Pandora’s Promise and The Island President. He is science advisor to the Climate Vulnerable Forum, an alliance of 70 developing countries and small island states. He has co-authored scientific papers on climate change, misinformation, GMOs and vaccines, and is currently policy lead at the pro-science environmental campaign network WePlanet.

As the world passes the Paris limit of 1.5 degrees C, the future looks grim for islands. Rising seas attack their fragile coasts, water resources are in peril, and their biodiversity is threatened with extinction. But to despair would be wrong.
